Chemical sunscreens

Chemical sunscreens, also known as organic UV filters, are special ingredients designed to protect the skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays, preventing sunburn, hyperpigmentation, and signs of photoaging. These filters work by absorbing UV radiation then converting the energy into heat, which is released from the skin. This process helps prevent UV damage while allowing the sunscreen to remain effective on the skin for extended periods.

Unlike physical filters, chemical sunscreens are more stable, meaning they are less prone to being washed off by water or transferred to clothing. They provide effective protection at lower concentrations and often have better moisture resistance. Additionally, chemical filters tend to be more transparent on the skin, making them ideal for everyday use, especially under makeup or as part of a skincare routine. Their ease of application and quick absorption into the skin allow for even coverage.

There are numerous chemical filters available for sunscreens, and new advancements continuously expand the list of options and combinations.

Here are some of them:

  • 3-Benzylidene Camphor
  • 4-Methylbenzylidene Camphor
  • Benzophenone-3
  • Benzophenone-4
  • Benzophenone-5
  • Benzylidene Camphor Sulfonic Acid
  • Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine
  • Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane
  • Camphor Benzalkonium Methosulfate
  • Diethylhexyl Butamido Triazone
  • Diethyloamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate
  • Disodium Phenyl Dibenzimidazole Tetrasulfonate
  • Drometrizole Trisiloxane
  • Ethylhexyl dimethyl PABA
  • Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate
  • Ethylhexyl Triazone
  • Homosalate
  • Isoamyl p-Methoxycinnamate
  • Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol
